Talk Tuesdays - " Nail color is an affordable indulgence. It's an easy way to be on-trend and to make a statement "

Did you guys miss my Talk Tuesdays? Or not at all?
Well, today I have a very interesting thing to share with you guys. I don't remember how I got on reading this article. You know when you are online browsing here and there and from here you go there and there and there and so on. Internet can really catch you LOL
The article is super short and you can read it pretty fast. If you like polish and everything related you are gonna want to read this.

In tough economic times, women buy nail polish

Posted at 12/20/2011 11:16 AM

For the first ten months of 2011, sales of nail polish and products were up 59% from the same period in 2010, according to market research firm NPD Group, which also showed sales have grown since the onset of the economic downturn.
"Nail color is an affordable indulgence," said Karen Grant, vice president and global beauty industry analyst at NPD. "It's an easy way to be on-trend and to make a statement."
Although NPD's research focused on department stores, Grant said the trend extends to the mass market as well.
Demitrius Simpkins, manager of New York salon Lali Lali in New York, agreed.
"Beauty is one thing women never forget about," he said. "Manicures are a way to lift spirits."
NPD's research showed that both colored nail polish and base coats were selling well, which suggests that more women may be skipping the salon manicures and doing their own nails.
"With so many looks that you can play with for relatively little expense or commitment, it lends itself to being a DIY treatment," Grant explained.
Simpkins said that although the salon's nail services are popular, he has noticed some customers are looking for ways to save money and opting for long-lasting gel manicures to reduce salon visits.
"Some women who used to come every Monday now come maybe every other Monday," he said.
Grant and Simpkins also think women are aiming for value.
"A bottle of nail polish can last a month or two at least," said Grant. "If you go out to dinner, you only get one night."
Grant also noted the capacity for growth in the nail cosmetics market, which she said is larger than for other color cosmetics.
In 2001, when lipstick sales shot up former Estee Lauder chairman Leonard Lauder coined the term "lipstick index" to describe the increase in demand for lipstick after the late 1990s tech bubble burst.
"The size of the market is burgeoning, and there's a huge opportunity for doubling or even tripling growth," Grant said of nail cosmetics. "It's like lipstick ten years ago."

Talk Tuesdays - Essence Vampire's Love

I'm not into vampire things not even care about the Twilight books and movies. Not at all.
However, Essence Cosmetics is gonna be releasing a new collection called Vampire's Love this month. I am so lemming the nail polishes from that collection. Since Essence is an european company I'm not sure if we are gonna be able to find this collection here in the US. We can always get Essence Colour & Go at ULTA so I'm hoping they get these polishes. I really want them ... want them all. What about you?

Are you lemming any collection/polish coming out soon? What is it?

Tuesday Talk - My Lucy gets her nails done

Do you have a pet that you spoil her/him a lot?
I do. I have my cute chihuahua Lucy. I do her nails and she looooves that. She even falls asleep. I just do her nails one in a while though. I wait for the polish to come out by wear. Now take a look at Lu's nails.
Oh, and if you are wondering I use the same polish on my nails the answer is NO. I love my doggie but we don't share nail polish. I got her a little bottle from those Razzles, the pink tiny one just for her. It's a cream and very pigmented pink that I just need one coat. My hubby thinks I'm crazy but whatever. After all when Lucy's is on her girly poses we all enjoy looking and laughing at here anyways :)

Happy Tuesday!!

Tuesday Talk - That's why I don't go the nail salon here in the States lololo

I saw this video on Youtube last week and thought that would be perfect to share here with you guys. I cracked my pants off while watching this. And all that I can say is that this girl Anjlah tells in a pretty good humor the reasons why I do my nails myself and refuse to EVER to go a nail salon.
I was watching that and talking to myself all the time " I know right ?" " Yeah, that's absolutely true" "Yeah, it's just like that" and such says and thoughts.
Now, click play if you wanna laugh !! You can probably see yourself in that situation.
Have a great day you all !!

Talk Tuesday - For how long are you willing to go without cutting your fingernails?

Hey lovelies! Good morning :) How are things going? Hope you week is going great so far.
On today's post I am sharing one of my pet peeves in the nail world. Way too crazy long sick dead nails. That is really disgusting for me. I really don't understand why people let their fingernails grow in such long lenght. I know that if you are reading this and enjoy having your nails long it's not of my business. I know. However I have to say that when I see something like the article below I can't help but I am brainstormed by those questions: How those people function? How do they do simple things like going to the bathroom? Cleaning the house? Doing dishes? Getting dressed? Yeah, that is a good question. How do you put your arm through the sleeve of your shirt? The lady on the article below, which held the title of  the longest fingernails on Guinness Book, had her nails broken during a car accident? When I read that I was like "How she managed driving? Holding the steering wheel? Buckling the seat belt? All of that stuff you know?" As I read that and I have my brain being bombarded by the questions I just mentioned I was also sorry for her loss. I was sorry cause it was something that she cared for over 30 years. And if she did so it was cause she enjoyed doing that. I don't judge her. Who know her motives to have such fingernails?  But yeah, I was happy for her loss, and even happier when I read that she said after the accident things were much easier to do. Good for her!
I worry about the independency that you loose when you let your nails grow that much. I worry about being trapped in your own body and by your own will. I worry about those nails being house for billions of bad microorganisms and bacterias. Uhhhhhh! All of that. Sorry to speak up about this subject. But it was just what came to my mind and what always come to my mind when I see situations like that. I am happy with my nub fingernails here.
What are your thoughts about it? To read the article a little better click on the picture to make it bigger.

Talk Tuesdays - Shocking

All I have to say today is regarding an article that was posted last week.
I will link the article here and stuff so you guys can have access. You guys probably have heard about it or read something before. I don't want to get into that matter too much but I'd rather want to clarify my position as a Nail Blogger. But really I will be very very brief. I am by any means a nail professional. I am just a nail polish enthusiast that loves to polish my nails. None of what I share here is what you must do but what I found to work for me. And I have mentioned this here before. Also, as I blog I have no intention whatsoever to take over the nail techs' jobs in the market. I started blogging because I merely wanted to catalog my manicures and thus share with friends. I am not trying to steal anything from the nail professionals. I never said here on my blog you guys should not go to nail salons or quit going. Doing my own nails work for me but might not work for you and I am fine with that. I am not here to try to convince you guys to start doing what I do. I love blogging about my nails and nail polish trys because I am passionated about lacquer, colors, combinations, mixing and match and my nail polish collection and also my love for sharing such things with you guys without bragging myself. I started blogging cause I could look foward to share my findings and drive my thoughts away from my daily problems I deal in my life. My nail polish blog is my scape and has healed me. Anyways, every nail blogger might have their owns reasons to have started a blog and I bet none of them were to dimish the work of nail techs, I bet. The article sounded just a little disturbing and insane to me. I just feel so sorry for the person who wrote it. I can just give her the benefit of doubt and only think that maybe she was having a bad day when she sat down to write that.
I am not sharing this to create more issues but just to clarify my nail polish blog purpose. I am gonna keep blogging and sharing my pretty colors. And if you have a blog too I tell you KEEP BLOGGING. The sun shines for everybody! And as nail bloggers we are not here to compete who is the best. Through this nail polish world I have met so many great people and I have learned with so many of you guys. I've learned with your fail and success, your tips and tutorials, your taste and your hates and so on. Maybe I do need to write this to thank you all for participating in this nail polish blogger world even though you don't have a blog but it's a follower. You are part of this comunity!
With that being said you can got to the links below and read:

Talk Tuesdays - 5 Great Nail Tips all of us should know

I am loving Talk Tuesdays. Are you? I kinda like that I get to share a good or funny and good video or even just write about my nail polish life on Tuesdays. The post from last week was a hit. Everybody seemed to enjoy the story of the prank I played on my husband a while back. lololo
Today I don't have anything funny like that. I bring something rather informative for those who are into taking care of their nails. I found this video where a guy share 5 great nail tips all of us should know. Take sometime and watch it. I really like Tom Bachik. And yeah that's a guy in the video sharing those great tips. Tom is great. I talk like I know him. I wish. Who knows someday we can go out just to talk about polish lololo
But anyways, watch this video. You guys might find your answer for some questions some of you have been asking me.

Talk Tuesdays - Oh ba'by, sorry! I spilled nail polish on your computer

DO NOT SCROLL DOWN BEFORE READING THE STORY

I was looking so bad for these pictures I took a while ago so I could show you guys. These pictures were probably taken a couple of months ago. I am glad I finally found them so you guys can  laugh with me.
The story is: Once upon a time, I was at the dollar store and spotted this open bottle that had spilled polish on a shelf. I went to touch the spilled polished (I know ... weird)  and for my surprise that was a fake nail polish bottle. I thought it was sooooo cool I had to get one of those for myself. They just had one at the whole store so the guy gave me the one who was already open and bit up at the store. Even better cause that one looked sure real.
I took proudly that home with lots of ideas brainstorming inside my head. Oh, I wanted to use that on my husband. He would probably be so pissed at me. I was just super excited like I was a kid again and was going to play a prank on my brother lololo I went to my husband's office and set the fake nail polish bottle on the top of the screen of his tablet computer that he always needs for his meetings to take notes. That was the spot. Now I just needed him to come back and see that his wife had just left a red nail polish bottle spill on his important piece for work. Now, scroll the pictures quickly without looking at details and see with your own eyes if that doesn't look real.

Needless to say, my husband's reaction was fabulous. Well, as expected. " Why did you have to do your nails here? Don't you have you own craft room at home? " I was laughing my pants away lololo. He was getting pissed... So pissed until he got a piece of paper to try to clean the fake polish away when he realized I had just gotten him on a prank. Hilarious!!!!!!!!!! He was relieved and said "I hope that never happens cause I was really mad at you!" Poor guy having to deal with his polishaholic crazy wife.
I am always coming back to the Dollar store to see if I can find more of that stuff. When I find I will buy in a
bulk to give as a gift to my fellow nail polish sisters :)
Did you have a good laugh reading this? Hope you did cause when that happened I almost peed my pants literally. Have you ever played a prank on anyone using your nail polish addiction behind of it?

Talk Tuesday - No Ride Up Commercial - Be careful if you have super long nails

I was watching TV with my hubby and I saw this panty commercial. I laughed so hard I couldn't stop or hold myself back for minutes and minutes. It's hilarious! At least to me. The girls are talking about the art on their nails. Fake and long ones by the way lololo. Then on of them has an issue with her panty. Also know as "underwear malfunction". What the heck! That situation puts me on my laugh mode for ever. Even writing this post right now lololo. Sorry, I know I am such a dork.
I know sometimes we need to deal with that. I am just glad I don't have super long forever nails lololo
This is a really short 30 secs video. Watch it and let me know if it makes you laugh too :) Have a great Tuesday. Now, off to my real life!

Talk Tuesday - A five year old who understands everything about nail polish

Tuesday, tuesday and I found something really cute to share with you guys today.
Ok, I am beyond surprised when I saw this video of this cute 5 year old girl talking about nail polish (and much more including make up tips on her youtube channel). Is she really 5 years old? She know what she is talking about. And you what? You might envy her cause she might have a better nail polish collection than you and me do. On the first video she shows off her 5 favorite nail polish. That includes BUTTER LONDON, yeah a freaking $14 nail polish , plus OPI, Essie and P2. That makes me laugh and also love that little girl. She is just a cuttie pie. Reminds me of my sister when we were kids.
On the second video she is kinda of doing a review on Nicole by OPI nail polishes. I'd very super duper proud of having her reviewing my products if I was NOPI. She did a grea job showing and describing all the colors they sent to her.
Now to to the videos and hey, have a great Tuesday!!

All right for the first video the embed to pos ton blog is not enabled. So HERE IS THE LINK to it. You got to see this. See you will make you so nail polish jealous - laugh.

Talk Tuesday - A great advice you must never forget

I am having a heard time posting here with blogger. Keeps me giving me error. My post will be belated.
But it's ok. You guys will still see what I have to share today right?
My sister a while back sent me this image here { I have no idea where she found it. So, I'm sorry I can't link it back to where it came from}. It was on my computer and now late at night still without knowing what i was going to share on my Tuesday Talk with you guys I found this.
I have to go to bed cause work calls my name tomorrow early morning. But I can't stop laughing at this picture. Laughing at how stupid I am sometimes forgetting to go pee before start doing my nails. Yeah, even if I don't even feel like it. Does that happen with you? It always does with me. It's the pee conspiracy against a neat mani. Lately I am doing pretty good though. On my way to the "nail polish room" I have a bathroom so it kinda reminds me of a visit there before keep going down the hall. But answer this question: why do you always feel like going to the bathroom as soon as you are done with your mani?
Thank goodness for super duper dry fast top coats!

Always visit the bathroom before doing your nails!

Talk Tuesday - Car Commercial using Nail Art in motion

Last night  3 guys in a red car were chasing me after I left the gym. They scared the hell out of me. Lucky me I was driving the monstrous jeep and got to go through a route they couldn't. Oh man ...
And speaking of cars. Here I have something cool I'd like to share with you on my Tuesday Talk.
You guys totally need to watch this. It's a commercial for the new car from KIA called Picanto. And who knew they would show that off in nail art design?  And in motion? That's just so cool! Worth it watching.
It kinda brought a smile to my face while watching that. Hope you guys have a great Tuesday :)

Talk Tuesdays - How the vietnamese became salon giants CNN

I was browsing through CNN and saw  this video. Found it very interesting and thought it would be great to share on my Talk Tuesday.
Have you ever asked yourself why most of the nail salons are managed by vietnamese people ? Or  at least have a bunch of them working there? When i moved to the States and went to a nail salon I thought I just happened to go to a vietnamese salon. Then went to another one with a friend of mine for company and there they were again. I was just wondering why they " monopolized" all the nail salons I could find lolo Laugh. Seriously. I was thinking may be doing nails it's a popular vietnamese thing. I don't know. Please leave me a comment so I don't feel stupid thinking  like that myself lolo. But then I watched to this video and I thought it was very interesting information that answered my wondering question I have had for a while. Everything started with a movie in the 70's, a kind actress with beutiful nails and a big heart and 16 hard workers vietnamese women. Such a neat story you have to learn.
You won't regret watching trust me!

Talk Tuesdays - Options to Store Your Nail Polishes - WARNING overdose of pictures. Be prepared!!

A few months ago I was looking for a nice way to store my nail polishes. As your collection grows you might notice you can't keep them in that caboodle anymore. Reason? Maybe ... you have too many by now?! lololo And trust me, once you get into the lacquered nails life it's an addiction in your life. A good one though.
Yeah, I realized I had to come up with an easy box, a shelf or something I could keep my nail polishes organized. And my priority was : I need to have them out of the cupboards so I get to use them and not just have them sitting there collecting dust right?
Surfing on the internet I found really cute stuff from all price ranges and tastes - or both together lololo
Be prepared for the overload of pictures. Well, you might be interested in see what I saw throughout my hunting of a nail polish storage. These were the alternatives I found to store your nail polish collection.

A PLASTIC CART
I have seen some people putting their make up in those plastic bins and also nail polish but  that's a little hidden for me. They are a cheap option though.

AN OLD DOLL HOUSE
If I still had my doll house I would probably use it. Look how cute this is. The only thing is that I don't think this would be a good idea while having kids over (nieces and nephews) to your house lololo Bottom line: it wouldn't be a choice for me but I thought I'd share.

Photo: Found on Google. But couldn't find the link . SO if this picture is yours please contact me and I'll put your name under here right away or if you want me to remove it please let me know as well. I am not a photo stealer :)

A CART
When I went to Brazil and had my nails done I saw this cart and what came out of my mouth was: "Cooooooooooooooollllll" This is super awesome! You can store your polishes and also odds and ends on the bottom. It comes in different sizes depending on the number of shelves on it.
- 8 shelves ( 176 nail polishes)
- 6 shelves (138  "       "         )
- 4shelves (88     "       "         )
It retails around $179. I was studying ways on how I could have that shipped to me here from Brazil. I just Loveeee this!
Carrinho Smaltbell 8

A FURNITURE
I saw this piece of furniture , lets call it that way. It's a wood stand with draws that you can neatly organize your polishes in line. Isn't that just super adorable? I wish I could find where they sell these. I got these pictures from a brazilian blog though and it seems it was somewhere in Brazil. Dang it! And that's what I'm talking about. If you have your polishes organized like that it's just easy to find them. I'm so in love with it!

movel1

movel2

A PIECE OF INTRIGUING ART
This one I have seen in the nail salons in Brazil too. These cute nail polish carts really catch your attention as they seem to be floating by that big plate. What makes that ilusion to your eyes is the nylon thread holding the polishes by their caps. Such a great idea! What I know is that they are also sold in Brazil and they run around $250. I know, those things can be expensive.

esma2

A SHELF
You can buy them online or just have one custom made for you. These next two were custom made and are against the wall. I really don't know if I would like to have something like that. Sure does look cool! But can you imagine having this and your jealous friend saying : "Oh, I think you have way too many polishes" lololo And plus I don't have that many of bottles to display proudly like that anyways. The fact I like on these ones is that your nail polishes will be screaming at you "Please use me!!" If you put up with a shelf like that you better have your nails all lacquered up.

Now we have these shelves that are smaller and cute.  You can be displaying polish pride on your walls. These Apple racks can be found all over the internet specially on Ebay. And it's sold around $189 sometimes with shipping included.
Photo: Ebay

The Hello Kitty rack I found on Etsy. It's for sale $250. Yeah! Back in the days I would be drooling to have one of these in my room.

Hello Kitty nail polish holder (27"x20")
Photo: Etsy

This acrylic nail polish rack it's pretty popular among the polishaholics on duty. They are also to be hang on the wall. I've seen people spreading this all over their walls. When I first started looking for a new home for my polishisss I kinda considered those acrylic wall racks cause I thought they were cheap. Cheap??? No, they are not cheap whatsoever ( They retail for at least $50 plus shipping the little ones). Plus after buying you have to drill wholes in your wall to put them up. I gave up and decided it wasn't what I was looking for anyways. PS: When I say cheap or expensive is based on my budget. I don't know what your are so please don't judge me.

Photo: Alibaba

This one you can also find on Ebay. And like I said the acrylic stuff isn't cheap (this ones are sold for $47.99 +SH). I kinda like this one cause you can put on the table at your station or in your closet or even in your bathroom (if you have a big counter). But when I saw this I didn't love at the point to make a buy decision.
New Nail Polish / Cosmetic Display / OrganizerPhoto: Ebay $47.99

Then I saw these ones and I felt in love. I thought they were different and could serve the purpose I was looking into on a way to store my polishes. They are a nail polish display that rotates. Don't you think this is a have to have it? Imagine your polishes in that carrousel thing where you can just spin it around and tan dan "here is the polish I was looking for"  in a matter of just you deciding on what color you are gonna paint your nails. And because they are acrylic of course they are gonna be a little pricey. But they are just a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e

Nail Polish Table Rack Display (Hold Up To 144 Bottles) Spinable

Nail Polish Rack Display Rotating Fits up to 140 Bottles

I hope you like this post. I thought this could be helpful for some of you out there. When I first started looking for alternatives to store my polish in an organized way I was kinda lost cause couldn't find any blog with a post like that. Yeah let me brag about myself right. But seriously, there you have all of the options I looked into. Being that way it might be a little easier for you to decide what better way suits your taste. And if you have a different way of storaging your babies please drop me a comment here. I would love to hear form you. Don't post links on comments cause they go to spam. So if you have a link please email me at contact.lacqueredme@gmail and I can make a special post just to share your idea.

Now do you wanna guess how I store my polishes? Leave me a comment. If I have lots of sweet comments I might extend this to another post next Tuesday :)

Some thoughts - WARNING Long writing post.

Hello everyone! I hope you had a great 4th of July celebration.

I was thinking after last Tuesday when I posted about the Nail Fashion Week that I could probably set up days to have some postings going on here. So that way I would encourage myself  to not ditch blogging. Because that happens with me all the time when the subject is blogging. I start blogging then after a while my posts start decreasing until my blog dies completely... yeah just like the numbers on my bank account sometimes. Or this similarity happens more often than I can realize (laugh). And for that I really thank you for following this blog and using some of your time to leave me a sweet comment. That really pushes me to keep going cause I know you care and then I have to post something cool.

A LITTLE NOTE: Speaking of that I would like to say a big THANK YOU to my friend Elaine Meyers from Moments and Thoughts who blogged about my nail blog. If you read portuguese and live in the States I totally recommend  her blog. She is the coolest person and I bet you are gonna get some good laughs off of her writing. So, I had some of her friends visiting over here and others becoming followers. Thank you guys!! If you are reading this please drop me a line so I can know who you are :)

And if you didn't find me through my friend's blog I thank you as well. It's  a pleasure having all of you here. I am gathering some cool stuff for a giveaway for you guys pretty soon. Thank you again!

Anyways, continuing what I was saying, I thought I would designate myself this following idea to be a better blogger.

Mondays --> There is a group I am part of it on FB called Polish-aholics Anonymous where they have a poll every Monday to decide on what to do for manicures on Mondays. It's such a great way to unleash your imaginative side by just a theme we all get to vote every week. I have joined that but usually I just post it during the week. Maybe I should wait and post that on Mondays. I would call that day Monday Mani PaA ( Polish-aholics Anonymous ).

Tuesdays --> I will call them Talk Tuesdays where I will write about anything cool (or at least I think it as lolo you are welcome to always skip it). I would post about something interesting I heard, saw, maybe tips (I am not a nail/beauty expert), things that I like and works for me, deals that I can find and other odds like that. It could be nails or beauty related. And if I find a deal I sure won't wait until tuesday so I can post it. I'll just posting as soons as I learn about one. What do you guys think? Any other suggestion about how I can call my Tuesdays  posts other than Talk Tuesdays?

Wednesdays --> Then on Wednesdays I was thinking about getting serious on the On Wednesdays We Wear Pink. I could show my pink nails on those days. It's kinda hard cause I don't really feel like having pink on my finger nails most of the time but I could try to pull it off some creative way to wear the girly color in the middle of the week.

Fridays --> Friends and followers could email me their photos and I could post them here on my blog so you guys could see prettier hands than mine lololo For that you wouldn't need to have a blog neither a fb page but just email your a photo of a mani and your name. I think that could be really fun! And that would be called Friend Fridays. If you have another cute name please don't hesitate to share with me.

For the other days I will be posting  whatever mani I am wearing and let's see how my blog goes. I hope I can stick to my plans on blogging here. That sure will keep me busy.

Do you have any suggestions? If so, please feel free to let me know on the comment bar.
